Giving Back to Nature: Our Commitment to the Environment

Ida Gorecka • October 1, 2024

As a company founded by a farming family, giving back to nature is in our DNA. It’s important to us—and to our partners—that we actively support projects that protect and restore our planet. That’s why we regularly allocate a percentage of our profits to fund initiatives like Ecologi and the Rainforest Trust. Thanks to the ongoing support of our partners, we’ve been able to increase our contributions recently, and we’re excited about plans to directly fund new projects with our partners in the near future.

Supporting Climate Action with Ecologi

We’re proud to support Ecologi, a platform focused on tackling the climate crisis through meaningful environmental projects. Through our partnership, we’ve contributed to two impactful initiatives.

First, we’re helping fund the restoration of 150,000 hectares of
peatland in Indonesia. Peatlands are vital ecosystems that store 20 times more carbon than typical forests, making their restoration crucial for combating climate change. This project also supports long-term conservation, with 500 permanent guardians now overseeing the restored land.

We’re also supporting the protection of over 1 million acres in the
Matavén Forest, Colombia. This project not only preserves crucial forest areas but also benefits 16,000 Indigenous people by funding education, healthcare, sanitation, and food security. Additionally, we’re backing a solar energy project in Morocco that aims to power homes across the country while creating 7,000 jobs during construction.

Protecting the Amazon with the Rainforest Trust

The Rainforest Trust is a non-profit Trust which has been working tirelessly for numerous years to fund and protect various lands across Latin America. Focused mainly on changing the legal status of lands, buying lands or assisting with conservation funding on existing lands. Their mission is to get as much rainforest land conserved as possible with a focus on the Amazon rainforest. We have funded various projects in Peru, Colombia and other regions, with most of the funding going towards safeguarding Indigenous and forest lands in Brazil. Which is now being organised into The Brazilian Amazon Fund.

Using a percentage of profits we are hoping to help fund a new project which is around the size of South Carolina. Supporting over 20 million acres of intact forest, storing over 6 billion tons of carbon. The project would secure the lands and lives of over 150,000 Indigenous people, whilst giving a permanent home to 70 species. We hope between our and many others' efforts that we can end up saving
the Brazilian Amazon

Deepening Our Connection with On-the-Ground Projects

While we’re proud of our contributions, we believe there’s more we can do by directly connecting with the communities we support. That’s why, over the next two years, we plan to visit Brazil to see firsthand how our funding is being used. We’ll meet with local communities, understand their needs, and work together to identify new ways we can support them more effectively.

Next November, we’ll also be joining Indigenous leaders and allies at COP 30 in Belém, Brazil. This event will focus on global efforts to protect and restore the Amazon rainforest, and we’re eager to learn, share, and bring back insights to strengthen our future initiatives. Afterward, we’ll keep our partners informed and invite them to join us in these efforts, ensuring that our collective contributions have a real and lasting impact.

Building a Legacy of Sustainability

At the end of the day, everything we do is about honouring the legacy of the farming families who started it all. By working together to support forests, communities, and farms in the future, we’re not just building a better future for ourselves—we’re leaving a lasting positive impact on the world.

Your choice to work with us means more than just buying recycled office furniture, it’s about supporting a better future for our forests, farms, and communities. We’re grateful for your continued partnership, and we look forward to what we can achieve together in the years to come.

Ever thought about how your office furniture connects to sustainability ? Probably not. But perhaps you should. The circular economy isn't some distant concept only relevant to manufacturing giants or packaging companies. It's a practical model that directly impacts how you furnish, update, and clear your office. At its heart, the circular economy challenges you to keep materials in use. It's your chance to reject the standard "buy, use, discard" approach that has dominated the industry for decades. It's your opportunity to turn office furniture from a recurring cost into a lasting asset. At Coggin SOS, we partner with organisations like yours across the UK, helping you transition to a circular furnishing model: refurbishing , reusing , and responsibly recycling your office furniture. Our mission is straightforward: help you make your furniture last longer, cost less, and waste nothing. Explore our wide range of refurbished office furniture in our inventory . You'll find quality, sustainability, and value, all waiting for you in one place.

Are you getting the most value from your office furniture? Probably not. Understanding the complete lifecycle of office furniture is essential for making the most of your investment. While many organisations replace furniture every few years, this "disposable workspace" mentality is likely costing your company thousands. According to recent statistics, over 8.5 million tonnes of office furniture end up in landfills globally each year...that's the equivalent weight of over 600,000 double-decker buses! Meanwhile, the UN Environment Programme reports that if current consumption patterns continue, by 2050 we'll need resources equivalent to three planet Earths to sustain our global lifestyle. The average office desk has a practical lifespan of 15+ years but is typically replaced every 5-7 years. This premature replacement not only harms the environment but also represents a missed opportunity for your budget. Premium office furniture pieces are designed to last decades, not years, and with the right approach, you can multiply your return on investment while reducing your carbon footprint . In this article, you'll learn about the five key stages of office furniture lifecycle management: better buying decisions, effective maintenance strategies, professional refurbishment options, and responsible end-of-life solutions. We'll show you how each stage can save you money while reducing your carbon footprint and keeping valuable resources in circulation, with practical tips you can implement immediately.
