Aeron Chairs: How to Choose the Right Size and Options

Sam Coggin • September 30, 2025

A simple guide to Aeron chair sizes, options, and why refurbished makes sense.

The Herman Miller Aeron is one of the most recognisable office chairs in the world. It’s built to last, designed for all-day comfort, and when bought refurbished, it offers huge value compared to buying new.

But many people ask us the same question: which Aeron is right for me?

Here’s a breakdown of the key things to know before you buy.

Step 1: Find Your Size

The Aeron comes in three sizes: A, B, and C. Picking the right size is essential for proper posture and support.

  • Size A (Small) – Best if you’re under 5’3” (160 cm) or under 135 lbs (61 kg).
  • Size B (Medium) – The most popular size. Suits 5’3”–6’0” (160–183 cm) and 130–230 lbs (59–104 kg).
  • Size C (Large) – For taller or heavier users, 5’9”–6’6” (175–198 cm) and 180–350 lbs (82–159 kg).

How to check an Aeron’s size: Look at the back frame above the Herman Miller logo. You’ll see raised plastic dots:

  • 1 dot = Size A
  • 2 dots = Size B
  • 3 dots = Size C

Step 2: Classic vs Remastered

  • Classic Aeron (pre-2016): The original. Sturdy, still widely used, and excellent value refurbished.
  • Remastered Aeron (2016 onwards): Lighter frame, improved tilt, better materials. Designed for modern work environments.

Both are high quality. The main choice is budget and preference.

Step 3: Back Support Options

  • Adjustable Lumbar Support: Simple padded bar that moves up and down.
  • PostureFit SL (Remastered only): Two pads that stabilise your spine and sacrum. Better for long hours at a desk.

Step 4: Arm Options

  • Fixed Arms – no adjustment.
  • Height-Adjustable Arms – up and down only.
  • Fully Adjustable Arms – up/down, side-to-side, and pivot in/out. The most versatile.

Step 5: Finishes and Casters

  • Colours: Graphite (dark), Carbon (mid-grey), or Mineral (light).
  • Wheels: Standard carpet casters or soft-tread hard-floor casters for wood/vinyl.

Why Refurbished Makes Sense

Buying new can be costly, but a refurbished Aeron delivers the same ergonomics and build quality at a fraction of the price. Better still, choosing refurbished avoids waste and keeps valuable materials in use, supporting a true circular economy.

At Coggin SOS, every Aeron we supply is carefully inspected, refurbished, and quality-checked. You get a chair that looks professional, feels like new, and makes a positive impact on both your budget and the environment.

Final Word

Start with size. Add the options that fit your work style. And remember — refurbished Aerons don’t just save money, they also save waste. That’s why they remain one of our most popular chairs.
