Aeron Chairs: How to Choose the Right Size and Options
A practical guide to Aeron sizes, models, and options — plus why refurbished is the smart choice.
Buying the wrong size Aeron is the most common mistake we see. The chair is designed to work with your body, not against it — but only if the fit is right.
This guide covers everything you need to know before buying: size, model, options, and what to look for in a refurbished Aeron.
Step 1: Find Your Size
The Aeron comes in three sizes: A, B, and C. Getting this right is the single biggest factor in comfort and posture support.
- Size A (Small) — Best for users under 5'3" (160 cm) or under 135 lbs (61 kg).
- Size B (Medium) — The most popular size. Suits 5'3"–6'0" (160–183 cm) and 130–230 lbs (59–104 kg).
- Size C (Large) — For taller or heavier users, 5'9"–6'6" (175–198 cm) and 180–350 lbs (82–159 kg).
If you're between sizes, Size B is usually the safer bet. Most of our customers end up in a B.
How to check what size Aeron you already have
Look at the back of the frame, just above the Herman Miller logo. You'll see small raised dots in the plastic:
- 1 dot = Size A
- 2 dots = Size B
- 3 dots = Size C

Step 2: Classic or Remastered?
There are two main versions of the Aeron. Both are excellent chairs — the choice comes down to budget and preference.
- Classic Aeron (pre-2016) — The original design. Sturdy, proven, and outstanding value when bought refurbished. Typically available from around £450.
- Remastered Aeron (2016 onwards) — Updated frame, improved tilt mechanism, and better mesh material. A step up in refinement. Typically available from around £650.
The Classic is where you get the best value. The Remastered is worth the premium if you're spending long hours at a desk and want the latest engineering.
Step 3: Back Support Options
This is where long-term comfort is won or lost.
- Adjustable Lumbar Support — A simple padded bar that slides up and down. Available on both Classic and Remastered models. Does the job for most people.
- PostureFit SL (Remastered only) — Two separate pads that support your lower spine and sacrum independently. Better for anyone doing 6+ hours at a desk daily.
Step 4: Arm Options
- Fixed Arms — No adjustment. Fine if budget is tight, but limits flexibility.
- Height-Adjustable Arms — Move up and down only. A decent middle ground.
- Fully Adjustable Arms — Move up/down, side-to-side, and pivot in/out. The best option for desk work, especially if you switch between typing and other tasks.
Most of our refurbished Aerons come with fully adjustable arms. If this matters to you, let us know when you enquire and we'll match you to the right stock.
Step 5: Finishes and Casters
- Colours: Graphite (dark), Carbon (mid-grey), or Mineral (light). Graphite is the most common in refurbished stock.
- Casters: Standard carpet casters are fitted as default. If you're on hard flooring (wood, vinyl, laminate), ask us about soft-tread casters — they protect your floor and roll more smoothly.
Why Buy a Refurbished Aeron from Coggin SOS?
A new fully loaded Aeron Remastered costs well over £1,500. A refurbished one delivers the same ergonomics, the same build quality, and the same durability — at a fraction of that price.
But not all refurbished is equal. Here's what you get from us:
- Thorough inspection and refurbishment — Every chair is stripped down, checked, cleaned, and rebuilt to a high standard before it leaves our workshop.
- 12-month warranty — Because we stand behind the quality of what we sell.
- Zero-landfill commitment — We operate a reuse-first model. Chairs that can be refurbished are refurbished. Nothing we handle goes to landfill.
- Nationwide delivery — We supply refurbished Aerons across the UK, not just locally.
Choosing refurbished keeps a high-quality product in use for longer, avoids unnecessary waste, and saves you serious money. That's circular economy in practice, not just in theory.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what size Aeron I have?
Check the back of the frame above the Herman Miller logo. One raised dot means Size A, two dots means Size B, three dots means Size C.
What's the difference between the Classic and Remastered Aeron?
The Remastered (2016 onwards) has a lighter frame, updated tilt mechanism, improved 8Z Pellicle mesh, and the option for PostureFit SL back support. The Classic is the original design — still a superb chair, and typically cheaper refurbished.
Are refurbished Aerons worth it?
Yes. The Aeron is built to last 20+ years. A well-refurbished example performs like new at a significantly lower cost. Ours come with a 12-month warranty, so you're covered.
Can I get a refurbished Aeron delivered anywhere in the UK?
Yes. We deliver nationwide. Contact us for a delivery quote based on your location and quantity.
What if I'm not sure which size or spec I need?
Call us on 01995 606414 or get in touch via email info@coggin-sos.co.uk. We'll talk you through it and recommend the right chair based on your build and how you work.
Summary
Start with size — that's the most important decision. Then choose between Classic and Remastered based on your budget. Add the arm and back support options that suit how you work. And if you're buying refurbished (which you should), make sure you're buying from someone who actually refurbishes properly and stands behind what they sell.
