How Much Does a Refurbished Herman Miller Aeron Cost in the UK?

February 8, 2026

Realistic prices, what affects them, and where the value actually sits.

The Herman Miller Aeron retails for over £1,500 new. Refurbished, you can get the same chair for a fraction of that. But "refurbished" covers a wide range of quality and pricing, so it pays to understand what you're actually buying.

Here's an honest breakdown of what refurbished Aerons cost in the UK right now, what drives the price up or down, and what to watch out for.

What you'll typically pay

Prices across the UK refurbished market vary depending on the model, spec, condition, and how thoroughly the chair has been refurbished. Here are the realistic ranges as of 2026:

Aeron Classic (pre-2016) Refurbished from specialist suppliers: £350 to £450 Marketplace/eBay (unrefurbished or lightly cleaned): £150 to £400

Aeron Remastered (2016 onwards) Refurbished from specialist suppliers: £650 to £900 Marketplace/eBay: £350 to £600+

New Aeron Remastered (for comparison) From Herman Miller or authorised dealers: £1,250 to £1,900+ depending on spec

The gap between a properly refurbished Aeron and a new one is significant. You're typically saving 40-60%, and in many cases getting a chair with 15+ years of working life still ahead of it.

What affects the price

Model: The Remastered costs more than the Classic, both new and refurbished. It has updated mesh, better back support, and additional arm adjustability. Whether that premium is worth it depends on your use case. Read our Classic vs Remastered comparison for a full breakdown.

Spec level: An Aeron with fully adjustable arms, PostureFit back support, and forward tilt will cost more than one with fixed arms and basic lumbar. "Fully loaded" means every adjustment option is included.

Size: Size B is the most common and typically the easiest to source. Size A and Size C can carry a small premium simply because they're less frequently available.

Condition and refurbishment quality: This is the biggest variable. A chair that's been fully stripped down, had worn parts replaced, and been properly tested is worth considerably more than one that's been wiped down and relisted. The problem is that both get called "refurbished."

Colour and finish: Graphite is the most common colour in refurbished stock. Less common finishes like Mineral or chrome base may cost more when available.

Refurbished vs "used": know the difference

This is where most buyers get caught out. The word "refurbished" isn't regulated. Anyone can use it.

At one end, you'll find chairs that have been given a quick clean and a new gas lift. At the other, you'll find chairs that have been fully stripped, inspected, had all wear parts replaced, and been tested across every adjustment before dispatch.

The price difference between these two approaches might be £100-£200. The quality difference is enormous.

When buying refurbished, ask:

  • What exactly was replaced? (Gas lift, arm pads, castors, lumbar components?)
  • Was the mesh inspected for sag or damage?
  • Were the tilt mechanism and controls tested?
  • Does it come with a warranty? How long?
  • Will it arrive assembled or in parts?

If a seller can't answer these questions clearly, you're probably buying a used chair, not a refurbished one.

What about eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Gumtree?

You can find Aerons on all of these for less than you'd pay from a specialist. Sometimes considerably less. But you're taking on more risk:

  • No warranty. If the gas lift fails in three months, that's your problem.
  • Uncertain history. You don't know how the chair was used, stored, or whether it's the right size.
  • No refurbishment. Most marketplace chairs are sold as-is. Worn arm pads, tired gas lifts, and dirty mesh are common.
  • Fakes exist. They're rare, but they do appear, particularly on marketplace platforms.

For a personal chair where you're happy to inspect it yourself and accept the risk, marketplace can work. For a business buying multiple chairs, or anyone who wants reliability and consistency, a specialist refurbisher is worth the premium.

Bulk pricing

If you're furnishing an office with 10, 20, or 50+ chairs, pricing changes. Most specialist suppliers (including us) offer volume pricing for larger orders. The per-chair cost drops, and you get consistency across the batch, which matters when you want your office to look cohesive.

Classic Aerons from £450. Remastered from £650.

  • Is a refurbished Aeron as good as new?

When properly refurbished, yes. The Aeron is designed to last 20+ years. A 5-10 year old chair with new wear parts performs like new. You won't notice a difference in daily use.

  • Should I buy the cheapest refurbished Aeron I can find?

Not necessarily. The cheapest option is often the least refurbished. A chair that's £100 cheaper but has no warranty and a tired gas lift isn't a saving, it's a false economy. Compare what's included, not just the headline price.

  • Do refurbished Aerons hold their value?

Better than most office furniture. Aerons have strong resale value even after years of use. A well-maintained refurbished Aeron can be resold again when you're done with it, which is unusual for office chairs.

  • Can I try before I buy?

Yes. We have a showroom at our Lancashire facility where businesses can visit and try chairs before committing. Get in touch to arrange a visit. If you can't make it in person, our size guide and a quick phone call will help us match you to the right chair.

  • What's included in the price?

Our prices include the chair fully refurbished with warranty. Delivery is quoted separately based on your location and quantity. Email us for a full quote.

Frequently asked questions

Summary

A refurbished Aeron Classic typically costs £450 to £550. A Remastered runs £650 to £900. Both represent serious value compared to buying new, provided you buy from someone who actually refurbishes properly and backs what they sell.

The cheapest option isn't always the best value. Look at what's included, what's been replaced, and whether there's a warranty. That's where the real cost difference sits.
